Northwest Cherry Growers report from Yakima, Washington the cherry harvest is full swing.
There is strong US domestic leading into the 4th July holiday weekend, with many people likely to take a four day break. It seems 4th July in the US is like Christmas here, with people buying up on products like cherries.
The good news is shipments are now increasing and there will certainly be ample supplies of Northwest cherries available after 4th July. This means from about 10 July and running well into August there will be excellent volumes and quality of well priced cherries in the market.
In addition to the red varieties (Bing, Lapin, Sweetheart, Skeena etc), supplies of the super sweet Rainier variety are also expected. To support sales, two new cherry leaflets for consumers have been developed - a generic leaflet features both types and there is also a Rainier specific leaflet.
