As the outstanding 2007 Northwest cherry season comes to a close, some interesting statistics have been achieved:
- By the end of last week almost 24 million cartons (5kg equivalent) had been shipped, which is 2.4 million cartons than the same time last year
- Another 1.8 to 2.7 million cartons remained to be shipped
- Quality and size have been outstanding, with 66% packing out at 10.5 Row and larger.
- Rainier size has been exceptional, with 94% of pack outs at 10.5 Row and larger
- Australian shipments are likely to be a record, in excess of the 221,000 cartons in 2005
- New Zealand shipments are already over last year's record, with almost 13,000 cartons shipped by 20 July.
Most impressive is the forecasting and shipment data supplied by the industry, as shown in the accompanying daily shipping tracking graph.
