Demand for Northwest cherries, both internationally and domestically, continues to outstrip supply, such is the quality of this year's crop. An example of this year's size and quality can be seen in the photo taken at Sydney Markets on Monday.
By Monday, Northwest cherry marketers had shipped the equivalent of almost 12 million (5kg) cartons, 3.6 million cartons more than the same time last year. Even better news is the estimate of good volumes of outstanding quality to keep coming until well into August.

The Bing harvest is basically finished and the industry will be moving into the later season varieties, such as Lapin, Sweetheart and Skeena. All three varieties are forecast to produce large fruit. Rainier cherries which have been shipped here are also performing well.
Northwest cherry promotions are well under way in both Australia and New Zealand. Activities include in-store sampling, merchandising, point of sale posters and leaflets for retailers, industry updates and trade press advertising. Excellent consumer coverage is also being achieved in New Zealand through the consumer PR programme. For further supplies of promotion materials click here to order.
In a new development, Northwest Cherry Growers has announced the addition of Montana to the family of premium sweet cherry growers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Utah. Most cherries produced in Montana are grown in the Flathead Lake region, an area famous for its warm summer days and cool mountain nights.
